Are you or perhaps your family experiencing a lot of colds & flus this year? I’ve noticed it’s particularly rife amongst people who have had 2+ of the COVID vaccines.
In any case I wanted to share some easy nutritious food hacks for boosting immunity or fighting infections.
Immunity boosters
Eat berries. Rich in antioxidants like vitamin C needed for immunity
Add finely chopped shiitake mushrooms (dried ones soak in water first) to gravies, broths, stir-fries & casseroles. The polysaccharides increase white blood cell production.
Add lemon, lime or grapefruit to your drinks daily. Clears mucous & vitamin c rich. Make a thyme, lemon & honey drink for a respiratory tonic.
Eat lots of garlic, onion & other Alliaceae vegetables. High in sulphur & zinc which stimulates immunity.
Add fermented vegetables regularly to your plate to increase gut bacteria needed for immunity. Check out Good Bugs NZ for delicious & cost effective ferments.
Remember to get outside in nature, air the house regularly, soak in the sun when you can too. These also reduce our exposure to bugs & boost vitamin D needed for immunity & mood!
Shine bright, Nic
